Year 5 and 6 children who wish to fast
Year 5 and 6 children who wish to fast
Dear Parents/Carers, Ramadan Mubarak to members of our school community who are observing Ramadan. We are aware that Ramadan is a very special time for many of our families and that children are often keen to take part in fasting, along with the rest of their family. You will have seen the text, stating that only Year 5 and 6 children may fast on school days, if they have parental consent. On the morning of the first day at school (Monday 19th), we will ask Year 5 and 6 children to let us know if any of them are fasting. We will then phone the parents of children who tell us that they are fasting, to ensure that they have permission. On Monday, we will also send a letter home with all Year 5 and 6 children, so that parents can provide written consent if their child will be fasting in future. Of course, we have a duty to safeguard the welfare of our children and if a child who is fasting shows signs of severe fatigue, or being unwell, including dehydration, we will provide them with food and water. We would then inform parents about this.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Yours sincerely
Maneer Samad
