CHANGE TO SCHOOL DAY – FROM SEPTEMBER 2022

CHANGE TO SCHOOL DAY – FROM SEPTEMBER 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

As you are aware, I wrote to you, explaining how government’s White Paper has set an expectation that all state-funded mainstream schools will deliver a minimum school week of 32.5 hours as soon as they can.

The 32.5 hour minimum expectation includes the time in each day from the official start of the school day (i.e. morning registration) to the official end to the compulsory school day (i.e. official home time). The 32.5 hour minimum includes breaks and lunch times as well as teaching time. It does not include optional before or after school provision. The government publication states that schools must ‘Operate two sessions on every school day divided by a break in the middle of the day’.

Following the parent consultation which has now closed, I can inform you that the changes to the school day will come into effect from 7th September 2022.

This means that school will finish for children at 3:30pm, every day. Children will need to be in the playgrounds at 8:40am, as is the case now, so that there is enough time for them to reach their classes for registration.

From 7th September 2022, children will need to arrive at 8:40am and will be dismissed at 3:30pm every day.

Yours sincerely
